Max Mackinnon scored 12 of his 34 points in the second overtime and LSU ended a five-game losing streak by defeating Ole Miss 106-99 on Wednesday night in Oxford, Miss.
Michael Nwoko added 18 points before fouling out, Pablo Tamba scored 15, Rashad King had 13, Robert Miller III had 12 and Jalen Reece added 11 points and 10 assists for the Tigers (15-13, 3-12 SEC).
Ilias Kamardine had 26 points and 10 assists, Malik Dia scored 20, AJ Storr had 19 and Eduardo Klafke Jr. added 16 for the Rebels (11-17, 3-12), who lost their 10th straight game.
Kamardine made two free throws to start the scoring in the second overtime, but Miller made a dunk and Mackinnon converted a three-point play to give LSU a 95-92 lead. The Rebels got within one point twice, but Mackinnon’s consecutive layups and two free throws gave the Tigers a 103-96 lead with 34 seconds left.
Ole Miss scored the first four points of the first overtime before LSU tied the score three times. The Rebels missed two shots on the final possession of the period.
Ole Miss started the second half with an 8-2 run that produced a 50-43 lead. King’s 3-pointer and Nwoko’s two free throws pulled the Tigers within 78-76.
Kamardine answered with a basket, but Nwoko scored four straight points to tie the score at 80. The Rebels’ Corey Chest broke the tie with a dunk, but King made two free throws to tie the score with 15 seconds left. Ole Miss missed two shots on the final possession of regulation.
The score was tied seven times and the lead changed hands six times before Dia made consecutive field goals to give the Rebels a 28-24 lead. Nwoko made a layup, but Ole Miss pushed the lead to seven points on a three-point play by Kamardine.
King’s 3-pointer started a 7-0 run that gave the lead back to LSU, 36-35. The score was tied at 36, 38 and 40 before Storr’s jumper gave the Rebels a 42-41 halftime lead.
