Angels right-hander Robert Stephenson underwent elbow surgery and will miss the rest of the season, manager Kurt Suzuki confirmed Wednesday.
Stephenson, 33, has pitched only 10 innings on the three-year, $33 million contract he signed with Los Angeles ahead of the 2024 season.
Tommy John surgery wiped out the reliever’s 2024 season and he spent time on the injured list in 2025 with biceps and elbow inflammation. He made 12 appearances last season and was 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA, striking out 10 batters and walking three in 10 innings.
A first-round pick by Cincinnati in 2011, Stephenson is 19-20 with a 4.59 ERA and three saves in 283 career games (22 starts) with the Reds (2016-20), Colorado Rockies (2021-22), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), Tampa Bay Rays (2023) and Angels.
