Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov was hit with a $5,000 fine Monday for cross-checking Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin on Sunday.
The incident occurred following a whistle with 16:43 remaining in Boston’s 6-1 home loss in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round series.
The 6-foot-7 Zadorov earned a five-minute major and a game misconduct after approaching Dahlin at center ice and cross-checking the defenseman from behind.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
The Sabres lead the series 3-1 with Game 5 on Tuesday night in Buffalo.
Zadorov, 31, has one assist and 37 penalty minutes in four games in the series. He recorded 22 points (two goals, 20 assists) and a NHL-leading 152 penalty minutes in 81 games during the regular season.
